So I’m recovering from a long night of fun competition related things…making flights of drinks, throwing my ’spro down the drain because it didn’t taste the same as it did last week, wondering why I don’t have a sig drink, etc… Since we don’t close till 11pm it means we can’t get the ball rolling untill midnight at the earliest given cleaning and prep, so when we get done it is laaate. It’s all gravy though; Crystal’s training for her first ever barista comp come March and that in itself is exciting. With Ryan and Gabe helping out while Drew and I drink Belgians I’m sure she’ll be well prepared for the fun to come at the WRBC.

Our GB5 has been sitting lonely in the roasting area for a bit now and I’m trying to urge Jeremy to hook that beat up earlier than he wants to (we need to do some counter arrangement/improvements first). But whatever: Hook that shit up Jeremy! We want to practice on that!

Boxes are filling up the basement; things like hot water towers, cups, saucers, all kinds of stuff waiting for a home in our new store when it opens (soon). Not much else going on I’m afraid hmmm…Matt Riddle (2006 USBC champ) came in the other day and although I don’t know him we chatted for a second about random stuff, really nice guy (I dig it when we have visitors). Well…get back to your normal day folks I’m afraid thats all I got.

GB…twice

This week has seen two GB infusions at the cafe. Yesterday Mr. UPS dropped of our newest toy: a four group GB5. This is a much needed improvement and should allow for two baristas pulling and steaming instead of one pulling and one steaming. This should be faster AND hopefully in most cases the barista will build their whole drink from start to finish…accountability. As long as the coffee itself is up to par you got no one to blame for the quality of your drink but yourself. The work flow isn’t fully worked out yet so this could change. Updates as soon as this bad boy gets plumbed in. Jeremy looks rather pleased don’t you think?
The second GB we recieved this week: Gabe Boscana. Out of Portland and back into S.F. Welcome back G. Unfortunately his stay will be somewhat short-lived as it seems he’s headed for the motherland, the big N.Y. I’m looking forward to working with both of these new GB’s we have here. Good luck everyone, I’m off to a tea tasting at Red Blossom. Peace.
